Pit Bull Terrier : : Male
Hi, I’m Franklin, born around July 2020. I was found in November 2023 by a Good Samaritan who called animal control. I had been hit by a car and had a badly broken leg. I was brought to ACCT and was scheduled for euthanasia but at the last minute I was rescued by the nice people at Hart 2 Heart. The vets tried hard to save my leg but it was not meant to be so I had amputation surgery on December 22, 2023. Foster Mom and Dad set up all kinds of ramps and steps for me to help me through my recovery but I surprised everyone by somehow being more agile on three legs than I was on four. I jump, run, play and climb steps like a champ.
The vets think I am about 3 1/2 years old. My bloodwork shows that I am a very healthy boy. I weigh about 65 pounds. It’s important that my weight is maintained throughout my life to minimize joint issues and arthritis issues that could arise due to the fact that I have three legs doing the work of four. I take a daily joint supplement also but it’s available over the counter.
I have very good manners in the house. I always go outside to go potty and let Foster Mom and Dad know if I need to go out. I am crate trained but I do cry a little bit when I first go in the crate. Eventually I calm down and just sleep until Foster Mom or Dad gets home to let me out. I’m not super food motivated but I do enjoy cheese as a treat. I recently discovered toys and I very much enjoy them. It’s nice having my own things for the first time. I also have a blankie that I bring everywhere with me. I chew on it while I fall asleep.
I do get the zoomies sometimes and would love to have a dog friend to play with. I would also love to have a fenced yard or go to a home where someone will give me lots of walks and exercise time. My favorite thing is snuggling though. I like to be near my people and rest my big head on them to let them know how much I love them. I do bark if someone rings the doorbell but I’m very friendly with visitors once they’re in the house. I have met children and adults and like them all. I am a pretty big and muscular boy so I would probably do best in a home that doesn’t have very young children because I might accidentally knock them over. I know basic commands and am eager to learn more. I walk well on the leash though I do sometimes get distracted by all the new smells on my walks but I’m easily redirected. I also do well on car rides.
My foster home has a lot of cats and I’m still learning how not to chase the cats. I don’t want to hurt them, I just want to play with them. But sometimes I don’t realize how big I am so I’m not allowed to be unattended with the cats. I would probably do best in a home without cats or in a home with parents who understand slow introductions and healthy integration processes.
I know my perfect family is out there and I can’t wait to meet them. I have a ton of love to give and am a very loyal companion. If you think you can give me my happily ever after, please fill out an application and ask to meet me! I am located in Northeast Philadelphia. The fee for this loyal pup is $250.
